IB Standard Level Math Methods is a two year course that meets every other day.
Year 1 is largely a review of pre-calculus concepts such as graphing polynomials, solving quadratic equations, binomial expansions, solving exponential and logarithmic equations, graphing exponential and logarithmic functions, and sequences and series. A great deal of emphasis is paid to trigonometry. In addition, other concepts that will be covered include probability and statistics, matrices, and vectors.
Year 2 is essentially the AP calculus AB curriculum. Because the AP calculus exam requires a great deal more calculus knowledge than the IB Standard Level Math Methods exam, following the AP curriculum will prepare students to take both exams at the end of their senior year. Students will learn about limits, evaluataing derivatives and integrals, applications of derivatives and integrals, and slope fields.
